And do you have any bendy straws?

I need answers. P.J. told me that there's a lake under the Great Pyramid that's being explored. Why is this the first I'm hearing of it? This is exactly the kind of thing that I can get behind. I mean, I knew that the Great Pyramid was built on the exact spot that's considered the center of all land masses on Earth. Who didn't? But a lake? What's down there?

I think I know. It's Nessie. And I believe that Nessie, as most of my friends can attest, is a Brontosaurus. Or an Apatosaurus. (Name changes bother me. Don't even get me started on Pluto.) I won't bore you with all the technical and scientific details of my theory, but rest assured that there is a Loch Ness Monster, she is a dinosaur and now I know where she lives. Go on, prove me wrong.

Also, there's a tortoise who now has wheels. In Israel. Yup. This gives me great amounts of hope. I'm not sure why or how, but it's heartening to think that there are still people in the world who will see a lame tortoise and instead of giving up on her will say "Hey! If we strap on some wheels, she can lead a fairly normal life!" For a tortoise. With wheels.

News that does NOT make me happy: the commentary during the Olympics last night (which generally leaves me in a state of "Oh, hush up") explained that 16 year old Chinese high diver Wang Xin doesn't like to eat.  Oh, okay. An Olympic athlete weighing in at 65lbs doesn't need fuel to springboard herself into a three story fall? Meanwhile, most Americans are eating more protein and "supplements" than could ever be burned off in a year of running for the train and playing company softball. You don't enjoy taking in food? Yeah, well, I don't like peeing, but I hate jaundice even more. It's one of those annoying tradeoffs.

I'm weary from all of the news. Quick, someone make me a peanut butter and honey sandwich. With bananas. Cut into four triangles. I'm in training, you see.

Okay, so many things to comment on. First, I have been a delinquent sister-commenter. Though I comment to you verbally, so maybe that counts?

Why am I taking time to actually comment today? Because of the darn tortoise. Nothing gets me started like wheelchairs for pets. Now, I am an all-around animal lover (nice ones, anyway) but I also have a heart for humane treatment of animals. (Excuse me while I push my soapbox up a little closer to the mic.) While this little tortoise seems to lead a happy and healthy life and now has mobility to go along with it, I live next door to some miserable people (really) who have a completely lame (in the mobility sense) dog who is also incontinent. This dog first had a cute little doggie wheelchair for his hindlegs and the miserable wife would roll him out of the apartment and out the front door where he'd pee and come back in. But now, he cannot use any of his legs. So he is like a little roll toy, and is completely propped up on this wheelchair in order to get outside to pee. (Side note: the poor dog is only in the wheelchair when going outside to pee, so for the rest of the day he CANNOT MOVE.) So the miserable wife (really people, you have no idea, I'm going easy on her) drags her dog out the door. I even saw her push him on the sidewalk, leave him there for a moment so she could walk over to get something. The dog was stranded because he cannot move his limbs. The miserable woman also lets his poor little legs drag on the ground. Ouch! When we've commented nicely to her that his feet have fallen off and that she might want to pick them back up and tuck them in the wheelchair so he doesn't get hurt she has said: "yes, they do that" and then proceeded to DRAG him outside. Lovely. I love dogs, but this poor dog has no quality of life. And I mentioned the incontinence. He pees from their door, across the hall, into the elevator and out the building. It is so sad. And very gross to be their next door neighbor. Hard to tell my boys why they can't touch the floor in our building.

So, in sum, wheelchairs for otherwise healthy pets = two thumbs up! Wheels for pets that are struggling to live = sad.

AND!! That comment about the 16 year old (yeah right) diver who picked platform diving over gymnastics because she doesn't like to eat (I'm still working out that rationale) BOTHERED ME SO MUCH. It is just so wrong. The commentators passed over it in such a way as: she doesn't have to eat as much in this sport...

1) Olympic athletes should be healthy, and strong, and not gaunt.

2) That is an eating disorder!

Apparently as long as it brings in a gold medal, it's okay for China.

How can someone not like to eat?? I don't get it. I said those exact words to Tom last night as I was eating on the couch. Clearly she hasn't had Mom's cooking. Yum.

I always thought Nessie was an Ichthyosaurus. This of course is based on the fact that at my grandparents house, they have a floating soapdish for the bath in the shape of the loch ness monster.
Wow! Way to go 4 posts in a week!

I agree about the whole animals on wheels things. If they can not live a good quality of life then let them pass with dignity. I don;t want to be put on wheels either. Just in a beach chair by the sea and let the waves wash over me. There, now it is in print. x

Glad that guy found your cell..he is wonderful!

Actually this (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/topogeo/classroom/images/ichtyosaur.jpg) makes a lot more sense than what I grew up with, namely a huge brontosaurus in a pond. Go Annie.

Does anyone know how to actually just post an image on this thing? I have a beef (possibly even BEEVES) with posting entire silly web addresses.

Turn on Discovery HD quick! Right now they are showing: America's Loch Ness Monster: "Examining the search for "Champ," the creature purported to live in Lake Champlain in New England."

One more reason to live in New England!!

It's a documentary and they are interviewing witnesses and everything!
